Why Calan Porter ?

I first came to Calan Porter in the late 1970’s with my family on holiday.

Mum and dad loved it so much they bought a villa on son vitamina in 1981 and my love affair with the island was sealed, practically every year since then I had visited the island at least once I was lucky to have experienced Calan Porter during the 80’s and 90’s.

As a young adult enjoying the Stop Bar the Salamandra and Scantilat which was run by Miguel and his family which is now Club Menorca.

So many fantastic memories and back in the day Club 18-30 used to come here so for an 18 year old it was party central usually ending up at the caves until 6 in the morning!

We were lucky to spend our summer holidays here and have the 6 weeks every July/August to enjoy the sunshine, when I had my own children they had the same experience from when they were both babies.

Relocating to Calan Porter:

In 2019 after a very tough few years personally myself and Dan decided it was the right time for us to make a permanent move here and we finally arrived in July 2020 after a delay due to covid.

Obviously it was a really hard decision to leave our family and friends behind but knowing we can always get back to the UK the same day if needed ( even when no direct flights ) the decision was made.

Working in Calan Porter:

We set up a small business offering Villa Management Services and have lovely customers and great people that work for us, Dan also does maintenance work and we are kept very busy during the summer season and have alot more down time in the winter to be able to enjoy the island.

Our work life balance is perfect for us and we feel very lucky that the people of Calan Porter have been so welcoming and kind to us and its lovely in the winter to catch up with all the residents over a drink as most people are busy over the summer.

Reflecting on Relocating:

It has definitely been the right decision for us, our family and friends come out regularly to see us ( some too regularly Scott Owen 🤣 ) and we go back to the UK normally twice a year.

It’s very different in the winter months but I love it and am thankful for the businesses that stay open for us year round to enjoy a meal or a drink.

Looking Forward:

Over the years Calan Porter does feel to have been neglected a bit and it would be great to see the premises that are closed re opened and bought back to life.

Saying that the variety we have coupled with the friendly business owners here in Calan Porter makes the place what it is and this will definitely be our forever home now.
